i have my grandson for weeks at a time a couple of times a year. due to my daughter not having day care of a stable place to live. i think she would sign him over to me. but we dont know how to go about doing it. I dont want to prove her unfit, but i think it is in the best interest of the child if he lives with me in a nice town and stable invironment.

Sit down with your daughter and discuss your concerns and your wish to help her and your grandson by having him become your legal responsibility. If she agrees, you'll need to retain a good attorney who specializes in Family Law. You must have an attorney to get you through the legal court proceedings and documents.

If she does not agree, you'll have to prove her unfit. This same attorney can help with that, as well.

It sounds like you have a heavy burden. I wish you all the best.

Contact family and children services in your county and they can let you know how to go about it without accusing you daughter of being unfit. Ask about guardianship also, then you'll know what'll be best for you grandson. Before you do anything, you should talk this over with your daughter. Maybe she can get help with housing and daycare to help bring stability into your grandson's and her life.
