My friend just bought a used side by side. The bottom half of the freezer freezes, but the top half of it is at 30-40 degrees F.
Same with the fridge part, lower half is good while the top is around 50 degrees F. Thanks in advance.

I agree with the first guy--its the fan.

I bought a new unit a few years back, after a few months the exact problem occurred to me! The top half of the fridge and freezer items were actually WARM, and the bottom half frozen solid. There is a little fan in the bottom of the freezer, its burnt out and needs to be replaced.

Check that the door seal is airtight. Put a thin piece of paper in between the door inside and out. then shut door. if you can pull the paper out easily while door is shut, you need to adjust the hinges or if that fails get a new seal. hope this helps.
