Well several people said that shootings happen in gun free zones. Well just yesterday a man walked into a church in colorado armed to the teeth and started shooting people. He killed two and was shot dead by a woman at the church..... The lady was a retired officer volunteering at the church. So tell me how many people at Virginia Tech would have died if a few students and teachers had been armed.
Having the means to defend yourself is just good sense. You have insurance on your home. You lock your dood when you leave. And your car. You lock that up at the mall. And your life...
As far as I care your friend dodged the import tax and for that is a criminal. I really don't care about people owning AK-47's.

Speed, I gotta agree with you. Gun bans are only truly effective when they are implemented in societies that respect the law and are culturally non-violent. Anti-gunners brag about the low homicide rates in Japan and Europe, but they are only cherry-picking the successful countries. If gun bans are so universally successful, why isn't it working for Jamaica, Mexico, Russia and Venezuela, which have staggeringly high murder rates (with firearms) even though they have strict or total bans on firearms? Again, it's the people and culture, not the laws, that will determine whether gun bans will work.
Honestly, I do not think we could implement a gun ban and have a safer country. The USA is a nation with a growing taste for violence. We have subcultures that glorify violence and lawnessness. We have a significant gang and drug trade problem in our nation. Look at Washington D.C. The ban on guns is a total failure because there are locals that thrive on crime and gang activity. D.C.'s had a strict gun ban for decades and their homicide rates skyrocketed after the ban was implemented. No criminal in D.C. turned in his gun after owning one became illegal, only law-abiding citizens did. And now it's those good citizens that are paying the price for being disarmed and having to live among gang violence.

I’m a machinist and worked in the trade making guns and any thing else that came along. It’s not really that hard to replicate weapons. You can’t believe how many machinists have their own machines in their garage as I did and can reproduce these weapons. All of them have 4140 steel and stainless steel to produce these weapons and you don’t even have to give the guns an I.D. number. Why doesn’t the government outlaw guns? The machinists will just jack up the price of the ones they reproduce. And why don’t these machinists do it know? They don’t have the clientele or maybe they do. If the guns are outlawed I’ll go back into business. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people kill people. People have kill people with a knife, ball bat, hammer, pipe, poker; guns are just the weapon of choice for some. Just like religion, religions don’t start wars, greed and power start wars. Religion is just the vehicle people use.

Guncontrol is just blatantly unconstitutional. All these laws do is keep guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens to make them easier prey for gun toting criminals who ignore the laws. As someone already said, all of these mass shootings happen in gun-free zones where the perpetrator knows that they will face no armed resistance to their rampage. More armed citizens make for a safer society. They should just scrap all of the gun control laws, an honor the second amendment as it was intended.

No, but not for the reasons I see here, I am against gun control for the following reason:
The Second Amendment is primarily about tyranny and self-defense, not hunting. The Founding Fathers wanted us to be able to defend ourselves from our own government, if need be, and from all threats to our lives and property.
That is why it should not be illegal to own fully automatic AK-47s
That being said it is illegal! Stay away for that guy and the guns, just having one in your possession could land you in jail for a long time, the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is way out of control in the country.

No. It will not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. They generally disregard laws. That's why they're criminals. Ironically enough, the VA Tech shooting occured within months after a state law that banned guns on college campuses.

Course it won't help. Criminals will always have guns, it's just the law abiding folk who'll be unarmed and easy pickin's. Incidentally, I've had enough of all these gun ban politicians, and even if they do get bans passed, I'm going to flat *ss ignore them and carry on, armed to the teeth.

I totally agree with you. And that is one reason I do not favour gun control.
But, I do favour gun "education". Although "lucky" was joking, he did bring up a good subject.
Many people simply don't know how to properly operate their weapons. And, sadly, many do not know how to care for their weapons either. I have seen some sad rifles in piss-poor condition in my time. And there was no excuse for it either --- not to mention the safety factor.

No, I'm not. I believe firearms in more law-abiding citizens hands reduces crime. Ever notice how these spectacular shootings like Omaha occur in "Gun Free Zones"?
