I've been thinking about auditioning for a musical either at the Muni or the Theatre in the Park.

TIP is fairly small, so it's more likely for me to get a part. (They are putting on Kiss Me Kate, Two by Two, and Anne of Green Gables...I've only heard of the first.)

The Muni is larger, which either means I won't get a part or I'll be part of a very large cast (which I don't mind). They are putting on The Music Man, Hello Dolly!, The Secret Garden, and All Shook Up. (I've only heard of Hello Dolly! and The Music Man)

They are both near the same distance away from where I live (TIP is only a few minutes further). And if I remember right, the auditions are around the same time that my school puts on our musical (auditions for that are in a couple weeks).

If I go for it, which theatre should I audition with? And what show?

Audition for all and go with the best roles or the roles that you want. If you are offered more than one role you just turn down the ones that conflict.

Anne of Green Gables is sweet and Although Secret Garden can be boring the music is beautiful. What roles do you breakdown for, do you know? How old do you look, do you have a classic look and what's your vocal range? It sounds like both theatres will audition for all shows at once so you may be called back for several roles. I could be wrong of course, but I know that's how TIPs around here do it and with the other theatre since you are listing all the shows I assume that's what's in the audition listing so they are most likely auditioning for their season as well. The shows will likely not play all at once so you may get roles in a few and have yourself set for several months.

In all honesty I would set your school as the lowest priority depending on the show and likelihood of getting a lead. The others are better credits for your resume and better professional connections. If you are truly good enough to get in that's what you go for. If you've never done anything before and this is your first time auditioning out in the real world, do not let go of your school audition...

Do you have your audition material lined up? I assume you know to have 16 or 32 bars of legit musical theatre material prepared depending on what the audition notices asked for?

good luck,
Marianne

placed on some thing mushy, yet no longer too casual. in case you ought to bop, carry jazz shoes. in case you do not have jazz shoes, you may merely placed on tennis shoes. do exactly no longer bypass in turn flops, because of the fact they're complicated to bop in and your feet might desire to get stepped on. placed on easy makeup or what you often placed on. community theater isn't too severe and the everybody is quite often laid returned while it is composed of your outfit. they'll in all probability ask you you're call, age, the section you go with, and what you would be preforming, they might ask questions approximately in case you have had the different journey appearing, making a music, or dancing. as quickly as I did community theater, they did no longer ask any questions. now and returned the casting directors don't have time to ask, because of the fact there are maximum of persons to get by. everyday do no longer worry approximately it too lots. stable success :)
