Known issue with USB printers "forgetting" which "virtual port" they are meant to be on.
Unplug printer from USB port
DELETE ALL copies of the printer from the windows printer folder
Run the installer for the driver, and ONLY connect printer when it's looking for it.

This should solve it all.

Good luck

Try plugging a known working usb device into the same port that you had the printer plugged into and plug the printer in the port the other device was plugged into. If the device works in the port and the printer doesn't work in the new port the problem is in the cable or the printer it self. But if the known working device fails to work in the new port and the printer begins working then the port is bad. Also try closing as many memory resident programs as you can there may be too many programs running.

Most new computers will detect hardware as they boot up . Have you turned your computer off , and then back on ? If it says it has detetected hardware ,tell it to install .Not trying to get smart ,but make sure it is plugged in to the power and the computer . Good luck

Have you tried updating the Device Driver?
Also check to see if there is an IRQ conflict or somehow your com port settings have changed.
