It could be normal. I've heard of many times where people got their snakes from pet stores and they were stressed and wouldn't eat. Make sure that the temperature in the tank is appropriate and there is a fresh supply of water. I would advise taking the snake to the vet to have it checked out just to make sure that it's healthy.

Something is wrong- the snake is not being cared for properly.
Your friend needs to read up on proper snake care and feeding.

If hes shedding it wont eat until its done. If you reallly think that its in danger of dying or getting sick go to your reptile specialist.

reptiles can go without food for many weeks. they usually prefer live food (im not sure what it has been offered) because it sees the heat that its food gives off.
