All through college, every year, I auditioned for the state collegiate honor band seat on bass clarinet. Every year, I got my tail whooped by a girl.
Bottom line, there are no "guy instruments" or "girl instruments" -- there are just good musicians and bad musicians of varying levels.

First of all it is not called the quote on quote big drum it is a bass drum and if you play the drums you have to know other percussion instruments too like bells the glokenspiel chimes xylophone and miramba and you do not take drums home with you at home you just practice hiting a plastic pad If you want to play BASS CLARINET YOU WILL HAVE TO START ON NORMAL CLARINET also you can't ride a bike with a bass calrinet the case can be bigger than a trombones it os a lot haeavier than it looks

IT IS NOT A GIRL INSTRUMENT!
Whoops sorry I just get a little defensive of my baby, errr I mean bass clarinet.
Instruments do not have set genders. Just stupid stereotypes like "ooooh the only instruments girls can play are flute and clarinet!" or "Only gay guys play the flute!"
In our entire lower brass/woodwind section at school there are only 2 girls but that's ok I love my instrument and enjoy it. Also you just become one of the boys! It's loads of fun.
If you are really worried talk to your band teacher about it. But just so you know last year 3 people at my school played bass clarinet and 2 of those were girls.
Good luck!

I'm a girl and I play bass clarinet but your band has too many bass clarinets already their should only be two or three and just to warn you bass clarinet is a lot harder I would just stick to normal clarinet

it is lower htan a clarinet, but there's no reason to classify instuments to gender. At my school band, the bass clarinet is a girl, the clarinets go fifty fifty, the trumpets (me) go fifty fifty, and so do all the otehr instuments, like saxes and percussion. The only 2 sections aside form the bass clarinet that are single gendered at our band is the cello (one cello, and a guy is playing it) and the french horn section is all girl as of now. I'd say go for it.

I play the bass, and at my school, it is mostly a guy instrument too. But then they gayed out and now half of them play the flute....But, I love playing the bass, and soon I'm gonna play the tuba. Instruments don't have gender. They only have people who play them. And, personally, girls are way better at the bass.

It Depends on you. There are other reasons besides it being a "bass" clarinet that it is more of a guys instrument. I have heard horror stories from some of my female friends who played the bass clarinet because the keys were so wide apart the webbing on their fingers would bleed. So, if you have big hands, like a guy, you can do it comfortably. If you have smaller hands, youll be miserable.
