what are his stand-out qualities? average student, business failure, poor president. most presidents had something in their past that made them stand out from the crowd. high intellegence, leadership skills, military honors, something, anything. if george had not been born into the bush family, you would have never heard of him. he does not have the talent to do it on his own merits

I'm just going to say one thing I want all Bush haters to think about.
The President has authority to send troops into a country for a period of 90 days. After that... the matter is up to Congress. Congress kept allowing the troops to stay overseas so therefore, people do not need to be upset with President Bush... but should be with Congress. Thank You very much:)

I have had four chances to vote for Bush (twice as governor of Texas and twice for president) and have voted AGAINST him on every occasion.
Be that as it may, it is absurd to suggest that there weren't presidents with less impressive in their credentials for office prior to election. Harry Truman comes immediately to mind. He was a bankrupt haberdasher who never earned a college degree. He secured election to office thru the machinations of the Pendergast Machine in Kansas City (one of the most corrupt political organizations in American history).
While I have strong policy differences with the Bush administration, especially concerning Iraq, his administration has had to deal with some difficult issues and, at least as to some, such as the recession that he inherited from the Clinton administration, his performance has been impressive.
Moreover, his tenure as Governor of Texas was so successful that when he sought re-election to that position he received the endorsement of the State's most powerful Democrats. He was, in fact, the first Texas Governor to be re-elected to consecutive terms in a century. His political mastery was given high marks by every fair minded commentator of both the left and the right.
True, his performance in Iraq has been less than stellar but compared to Kennedy's disaster in Viet Nam (58,217 dead 153,452 wounded and 1947 missing in action) its been a walk in the park.
NB: George Bush is not and has never been a Southern Baptist. He was raised in the Episcopal Church but is now a Methodist (Specifically, the United Methodist Church which is the church Laura was raided in).
Those who state otherwise should check there facts before offering their opinions.

Grant, Hoover, Carter. There are a few others, but Bush has earned himself the title as worst president in our history. Not necessarily because of the war, but everything he has done. You just can't name anything he has done that was helpful. His ignorance and stubbornness are childlike and the only reason he won was because the Democrats are idiots too.

Harry S. Truman was far more effective without a college education. Seems Yale hands out sheepskins to whoever can afford to buy one! I have never been more embarrassed to be an American. Seems like the Dixie Chicks should be given an apology! They had the foresight that the Republican Party lacked!

Yes Clinton, Carter now there are two unimpressive people. I would not even call them men.
Business falure? He has made millions in the oil business. I will grant you that his intelllegence is not as high as we would expect from our leader, he has made some good and bad decisions but I would hardly delare hime un impressive. Could you win an election for President.

We do have to take some responsibility for electing the man. Twice. Hopefully we have learned from our mistake, and will no longer pick Presidents based on who is the most faithful Southern Baptist.

Whats much more interesting is why he was elected and then re-elected. What does that say about the system and the people. Thats what's really scary.
