There are 2 types of ports which connect external devices to a computer, Firewire and USB. For example, using a Firewire port you can connect your camcorder to your computer and up load your video to your computer. Firewire allows for fast data transfer, which is why they are mainly used for video,audio and high definition data. Currently, the majority of external devices connect to computers via USB ports (e.g. monitor, printer...etc.) but there are a number of external devices which only use Firewire (e.g. camcorders).

Firewire is Sony's version of USB. It is a high speed data transfer connection. There are a few devices that require this type of connection, but not many. Weather you should include it in your system or not would depend on weather you need it or not. Firewire can always be added later via a firewire pci card.

Firewire (also known as IEEE 1394) is used to connect devices to your computer similarly to USB. There are many devices that use it, but I've found that you generally don't need it if you have USB. Again, it depends on what peripherals you'll be using.

Firewire is a method of communicating with external devises very similar to USB. It was a lot faster than USB but not any more.

firewire is a type of connection on your motherboard. its good to have for some high speed devices.

you actually do not need it unless you want to transfer files that way or yr peripheral does not have firewire connection
