It always amazes me how people will ask this question months in advance of the start of the season. And what amazes me even more is that with this question, you forgot to put the Angels in the mix for next year.
Most Sox and Yanks fans have a bit of a concern about this team being the roadblock to the series, and if I were you, you best not look them over.
I can't give a definitive answer, but gut feeling at this point tells me that the AL could be a toss up between the Angels and Red Sox, and the NL is probably going to come down to either Braves, Dodgers, or Mets.
In any case the AL will win the World Series again. I don't see any real championship strength in the NL.
If I had to pick two teams right now --- Braves vs. Red Sox with Boston winning in 6.

I think its still a little too early to tell. The Tigers, Red Sox & Yankees all have a chance of winning if you look at what's been going on in their off seasons. I'm a Red Sox fan, but I think the Tigers may be 2008 WS Champions. When baseball season resumes, I'll be able to make a more educated prediction.

Its a clash between the Red Sox or Tigers, even though the Sox have a good team the new additions to the Tigers might be too much for the Sox

I hope the Tigers win, but I am not willing to get cocky and overconfident like everyone else.
Two men cannot win a WS. It is a team effort, and this is what the Yankees need to understand. Just because they go out and get superstars, their team has no personality. They are just a team put together for the sole purpose of trying to win a championship, and A-Rod needs to realize that he can't make a team win a championship.

I really wish some smarter people would show up in this baseball area.
First off the Yankees have done nothing to improve a team that was squahed in the postseason last year.
Secondly I don't think Detroit adding one bat wins the World Series. You can throw up Dontrelle Willis name as much as you want-but he's be a #4-#5 in Cleveland or a #3-4 in Boston...this guys is average at best-definitely not a difference maker. Last two years his numbers have been on a rapid decline in a much weaker National League. Cabrera alone won't do it. And after Justin Verlander (who hasn't shown he can beat the top tier teams)-Detroit has average at best pitching.
And finally-the best two teams in MLB last year were the young and every year improving Cleveland Indians and the Boston Redsox. I see no change in that. Cleveland has more pitching depth then Detroit or New York-and they can mash too. Cleveland wins 96 games with Hafner/Westbrook/Sizemore/Lee having the worst years of their young careers-and Boston is loaded with young arms as well-not to mention that beat Josh Beckett. Both of those teams have the best bullpens in MLB.
When you look at the American League the Yankees should be questioned to even make the playoffs-because of Detroit. No way they win a World Series-they have no arms. Detroit's pitching is the weakest out of Boston, Cleveland and LAA-see where that will get them in October. I'm saying Cleveland or Boston in World Series. Cleveland will be hungrier this year and more experienced and key guys will be back to health. Boston's young arms will be put to the test-but if Beckett is healthy and that bullpen is as well-they wil make their noise.

The tigers will reach it b/c they have a great line-up.....not sure if they'll win it or not, their pitching will decide that but there are a few contenders in the NL....i don't think it will be as easy as "which AL team is going to win the 2008 World Series"
