I have been tasked with "hooking up" an outdoor spa.The instructions indicate that it can be "powered" by 240 or 120.What is the benefit of 240 over 120?

Clifffie are you serious?? 25 years as an E/E?? The power factor is still the same at 120VAC or 240VAC. You need to brush up on your theory and Ohm's Law, and don't answer any more electrical questions until you do so!
In answer to the question, one is not any more beneficial than the other. Higher voltage, less current, smaller wire, Lower voltage, higher current, bigger wire. 240 volt will require two breaker spaces, 120 volt one space. Be careful who you listen to in this forum.

Lower amperage use and longer life for the pump and cheaper to operate. Make sure you follow the grounding regs as this is more important than using 240 or 120. Check with your locals as to what they require

even though the 220 is higher voltage then he 110 it will heat up faster and use less energy which will give youa lower electric bill for using the higher voltage..
