Hello- we are a family of 3 living in CT. We are in our early to mid 30's. I make $60K/yr and my husband makes $70K per year. So combined that's $130K. My question is this: Is that even a good income anymore for professional adults our age? I know there are tons of people making way more than that- and some less as well. I just want to know if it's okay, good, or almost really good. I don't know what to think. I feel like 60K is the new 40K. I know 10 years ago $60K sounded like something big, but it just sounds like average now. What do you think? Please note- the question has nothing to do with whether or not we are being compensated appropriately for our positions, but rather, are the numbers (60K, 70K, 130K) impressive or average, generally speaking, for people our age.

I honestly agree with you 100%-speaking as a male. I bet that if we would have allowed women like in the 1800s to this point to do more things based on knowledge, we could stop feminism stuff. I believe in putting women first even if you hate them, being completely fair, mechanisms to get a healthy relationship. I just don't care for relationships personally, I actually enjoy being alone and its awesome. But for couples you are right. Women having a weaker body- agreed peace

If you base your financial success on how you compare to other people, you'll never have enough money. There is always someone out there who makes more than you. True wealth comes from how you spend; not what you earn. If you commit to spending less than you earn and saving money for the future, you'll always come out ahead. Give some money (5%-10% of take home pay) to charity every month to remind yourself that there are others in this world who will never have as much as you. . .financially.

In actuality, your income is probably in the top 20% of the US. the real value is how well you live inside that amount of money. Are you spending it all? Do you have huge credit card bills? Are you saving in a retirement account. That is where the value of that money comes from.

You actually have to consider how valuable your skills are to society. If you are both young engineers just starting out, yes. If you are both in temporary retail positions without room to grow the answer is no. Check out bls.gov for average yearly salaries for your position in your state. Cheers and good luck.

130K is good and I think you know that. How could you think 130K isn't good when alot of people are lucky to have a job let alone a job that pays more then 30 or 40k. You should feel blessed to make that kind of money.

at your age I made about 60-70. however, I live in a much cheaper place to live - Indiana. 130K is very good. remember, you live in the richest country in the world. thats a blessing. your life is probably harried. (as mine is and was). a better thing to look at is are you under or over paid according to your worth to your employeer.....
