How much money would you collect?

There are roughly 300,000,000 people in the United States.

So if you collected a penny from each, you would collect roughly $3 million dollars. Assuming you collected a penny from one person every second (without sleeping, resting, eating/drinking, etc.), it would take you roughly 9.5 years to collect your $3 million dollars.

However, if you had to physically drive around, meet every American and collect their penny (instead of them coming directly to you), the amount of money you'd spend in gas, food and lodging would easily overwhelm the (relatively) meagre sum of $3 million that you could expect to collect from them. The USA is a very, very big country with literally hundreds of thousands of cities, towns, villages and farms.

According to the US Census Bureau, the total population of the US went over 300 million sometime last year. At $0.01 per person, that comes to $3 million. As for how lone it would take to collect, there is no correct answer, If you could convince everyone to mail you a penny, you could receive it all in a week or two. Actually convincing everyone to give you the penny is impossible. therefore, you could NEVER collect a penny from everyone.

It might take quite some time, as it might take me a while to find Jimmy Hoffa.
