we have some old tile in our home that we would like to either replace or cover with laminate or wood flooring. the problem is the floor is visably not level and we have joist issues as well which are making the floor look wavey. my qestion is... could we put some type of wood flooring over top or shoud we take out the tile first?

Hi, If it was my home I would take it all out just becouse you will then have a big difrence in hight and i`m shure you don`t want that.Once that is done try to level your floor, either by jaking it up or shems.Your friend A HANDYMAN 4U.

Tricky question, what kind of tile and how old is old. "wavy" is not good for a floor. A firm, solid foundation is key to a good
finish, appearance. I've learned through past renovations some times covering is better due to several different factors.
"old" could mean the use of asbestos both in the tile and sealer which means professional removal, very expensive.
Leveling and installing over the "tile" could be your best bet.
Good Luck

removing the tiles isn,t going to level the floor,
the tiles can stay, for wood flooring,
the wavy floor is a basement or crawl space issue,
