Truth stood on one side and ease on the other , it has often been so" - Theodore Parker
okay , so lemme get this straight , i come out of my cosy warm blanket and become brutally self honest , in other words , i start facing everything that needs to be faced .
after getting monumentous amounts of excruciating pain , what is that ONE thing , that will make it all worthwhile .
just tell me the name of that thing. thank you

Self deceiver, hello, hello, come in! You got it all wrong, self, come in self, your headed the wrong way. Theodore was talking about "integrity", yeah that old cliche of being "true to yourself". The point of the quote is that 90% of us don't have integrity, when faced between truth and all that it implies to us as individuals. Most of the time we choose the "easy". You know easy, its what jellyfish do! They float in that great tide force called peer pressure, non-involvement, stereotypes, bigotry, fads, popular thought, eliteism. We have elevated deception to an art form in our society. Remember when newspapers had a code of ethics to print the "truth"! Think that still holds true? It's "easier" to print what they think you want to read! Think walking past that homeless guy and the "truth" that in the wealthiest country in the world that shouldn't exist, yet it's "easier" to turn the face and not notice.
Politics is full of "truth vs easy". Oh and what Theodore failed to mention is the the referee in that fight is always "money"! Take Hillary, what is the truth on her. Is she qualified, heck, she's as qualified as any of the rest. Is she deceptive, as much as all the rest. What's the truth on her, well if you ask some, she's our Evita Peron. Lets talk Bush. Let me preface him with a question, do you actually think Bush invented waterboarding? Do you think interrogations were less severe in WWII? Do you think Bush is doing anything more or less then any other President or the ability to do it? But its "easy" to blame him and "the administration" for all our woes. It's easier to lock arms with friends and point and the others. Here's the final question. If Hillary gets elected, do you think she'll do anything different. The "truth", no! The "easy", we'll believe she is.
Self, what you get out of that fight between "truth" and "ease" is integrity. Not to others, but to self. It's what makes our eggshells we call "all of me" hard and defined. Good Luck.

Integrity and maturity are the reward.
The difficulty is evaluating the importance of the subject. When you are deciding whether to go with truth or ease, as the quote put it.
When it's important, you must go with truth.
There are times when it's best to go with ease. Separating the sheep from the goats is the trick.

Knowledge.
With truth comes knowledge. People, myself included, often deny what they know to be true, because it's easier and more comfortable for it to be that way. I always feel so much better once I've confronted those home truths.
