No, your friend is wrong...in fact they have only played each other a few times in ODIs and England have never lost, and since Ireland are not a Test standard nation they have never met at all at Test level.
However, Ireland have beaten a few English county teams in one day competitions...most recently they beat Middlesex a couple of years ago.

You have got to look at Bradman's Invincibles what a team that was, and also CLive Lloyd's West Indies team was great, but I believe Ricky Ponting's Australian side with the likes of Hayden, Warne, Mcgrath, Gilchrist, Ponting, Hussey, Brett Lee. They won 16 straight last year which shows they dominance they had and still have over the game.

Not yet, however they beat the West Indies in the 1950's and recently in the world cup the turned over pakistan, which as you may be aware, led to what can only be descibed as the odd demise of Bob Woolmer.....
