The quick answer to how to learn math is: Practice.
Do specific problems, with as much coaching as you need to get through them, and the patterns will start becoming more intuitive for you.
Now, there IS a huge difference in mathematical talent, in terms of how well one can deal with problems of what level of abstraction and complexity. I got a PhD in math from a top graduate school when I was 19, but I know a bunch of people who are each a lot more talented than I am.
Even so, practice is enough to get you to a level of skill that is far above the average of your classmates and peers.

If you want inspiration, take a minute to read about a great French mathematician who lived from 1776 to 1831. She lived at a time when women were discouraged from doing "real math". If they were part of the upper classes, they were expected to have a smattering of knowledge, so that they could carry out an intelligent conversation at parties and so on, but that was it. I'm sure many students today would be only too happy to go along with that idea, but not Ms. Germain. Having gotten a hold of her father's math books, she became consumed with a passion for mathematics. But her parents decided that it was too much. They forbade her from studying the subject, and even hid the candles so she wouldn't sneak the books into her bedroom!
Ms. Germain's brilliance and determination were not to be denied, however, and she persevered, eventually making important contributions in the filed of number theory. A special set of prime numbers are now known as "Germain primes".
Go on the web and type in her name. Read about her. The next time you feel as though studying math is too hard, take inspiration from the work of this superstar who persevered in a "man's" world in spite of impossible odds.

When I was your age, it felt pretty much like you. Why do I need to learn that? But when I was 22, I went on sailing alone with a sextant and then I learned again everything about trigonometry because I wanted so much to see what was beyond the horizon.
Great mathematicians probably also have/had a great desire to look beyond their horizon. Find your own and everything will become so much easier.

They can do it because:
1. It looks better on paper.
2. You'd be scared if you saw words. Symbols make it much easier for us.
3. They're just crazy people.
I understand how you feel also. That's why I rarely read other people's answers. They blow my brains up.

i know exactly how you feel! im studying engineering in college and like all the mathematics classes we are taking, not just the calculus, but the engineering design labs, the physics, the computation labs! MY BRAIN HURTS!
and its amazing to see others get it so easy or enjoy doing it! you just have to find out what your motivation is!

You have to love math, and what it can do. I assume you feel you will have no use for math after you leave school. If that is true, you will have a very shallow life. Suppose you do cooking. You will be limited to following someone else's recipe, and will not be able to change it from "for two" to "serves twenty-five".

Just like anything else, you have to have some natural talent for it. If you don't the best you can hope for is to be mediocre at it.
