So much for this "feminist icon", eh? She clearly identifies with her race BEFORE her gender. She's going so far as to support a (black) MALE MUSLIM over the (white) WOMAN that clearly has a strong chance of becoming the first female president. One time she even said that white were women were the primary oppressors of black women during the days of slavery.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news ladies, but celebrity endorsements sway a lot of voters.

I think she is choosing the candidate she feels is best for the position. Women of colour have faced this dilemma for a long time. They are oppressed at the level of gender as well as race. It is clearly her decision and nobody has a right to question her beliefs.
You are being unconstitutional and not allowing her freedom. Are you basing this oppression on her gender or her race?
Edit for Gnu
I believe that it is written in YOUR constitution that people are allowed to choose who they feel is best for government position. You are the only one who constantly feels the need to criticize others.

It will totally backfire on her, he has no chance either of getting the nominiation or the election. The best part of Oprah endorsing Barack is that it will tear the Democratic Party apart during the primaries, the vicious Clinton Machine will soon be in full swing and it should get bloody, that will be fun to watch all the socialists tear each other part like rabid dogs.

I disagree with your assessment. As the first and ONLY, that's right, ONLY black billionaire in THE WORLD (suck it, rappers!) Oprah must choose very very carefully who she backs. Say what you want about her, but EVERYTHING she does, says, supports, promotes, funds, whatever, is very closely examined. If she cannot give to a charity because it has a shady reputation, she funds her own.

Barack is no Muslim. You have to stop watching Fox News. Hillary is NOT someone we need in office. So what about what happened during slavery? I bet Oprah could buy Hillary, outright. Do have any inkling of what Harpo productions represents, dollar wise? There is only ONE slot on all of TV that costs more than ads during Oprah, and that's the Superbowl.

Nah, Obama isn't going to take this election. Oprah is taking the safe bet by backing a man who looks very clean and shiny on TV. His activism is a credit to his character, even though he may not take the primary.

Celebrity endorsements usually don't count for crap. Oprah is a whole different class of marketing machine, bro.

She won't attach herself to Hillary because Hillary has too much shady dirt on her hands. Nobody remembers the S&L crisis and scandal because we were blinded by Bill's ******* (at the same time Wag the Dog was released... Hmmmm). No way Oprah is going to risk being attached to that, because if she does, sure enough, people will start remembering.

This was a calculated move. Oprah has whole floors of guys who's job is to research and decide what names, organizations, and products are going to come out of that woman's mouth. That's worth more than any sideline commentary a schmuck like you or me can come up with.

The numbers have been run on this. Oprah don't make shaky bets.

Ms. L, you very well could be right. I'll trust your veteran viewership over my 'from the armchair;' pop-culture evaluation. You simply cannot buy the kind of press an Oprah endorsement will get you. I'm shootin from the hip here. All I know is that Oprah isn't much into 'folly,' and her inspiration for supporting Obama over Hillary probably has little to do with promoting blacks or women over promoting someone with a clear stance and a good reputation. The woman isn't stupid, and if she is, she is smart enough to have professionals to do her legwork, ala Henry Ford. That's all I'm angling for. Since she has been supporting Obama all along (I'm taking you at your word, and that is good enough for me) that just says to me that she's not only quite savvy, but consistent. I still say there is some level of calculation there. Oprah's too smart to leave her public persona to whimsy.

Celebrity endorsements might make people take a closer look at a candidate but I don't buy that they make anyone actually vote for someone. Both Obama and Oprah are idealists so I can see why she would identify with him more than Hillard.

Your question is kind of insulting to all women because it implies that we should or will support a woman candidate for no other reason than gender.

Edit to add: I'd like to see Hillard run for president and Obama as vice president. That would make an interesting ticket.

As someone, we don't desire the loss of life to a diverse human. with the aid of fact the President of the country, would have been a sorrowful day with the aid of fact he's the President of the country and does no longer rely if his call is Obama or the different, in basic terms is a President it fairly is all.

It's her choice. She has every right to back the candidate she likes the best. It doesn't necessarily mean I will vote the same way. I don't vote for candidates simply because celebrities endorse them. I choose the ones who agree the most with my personal views.

Sadly there are people that vote for candidates just because a celebrity does. It is sad that these people lack the intelligence and skills to choose a candidate that best represents them, rather than the celebrity.

However, if you look back at questions on here, many women on here do not support Hillary either. Most state they are glad she is a contender, but do not agree with her stance on issues or political tactics. I believe it is ignorant for you to assume that a women would vote for Hillary simply because they both have a vagina, as it is ignorant for you to believe Oprah is simply supporting Omaba because of the color of his skin.

Muslim? Where did you get that from? I see you're going by the anti-Barack propaganda rather than doing your own research and at least looking him up on your own. Osama? Are you that ignorant or are you lying to mislead people because the truth won't be convincing enough? This is exactly how ignorance is spread around.

Oprah is one of the most powerful women in the world. Women love him regardless of age, race, nationality and social status. She's clearly aware of where she comes from, speaks of realities....if it sounds racist (slavery/black/white women), be mad at history and reality, not the person who is telling it.

She would not put her time, name and energy on someone, unless she believed in him. There is too much at stake for her to support anyone without merit, as she has nothing to gain from this except having a President she really believes will change things to the better. I love Oprah and Obama being the next president would be a dream come true and the change this country needs. How do I feel? I'm happy and can't wait to see what the results will be.

Why would a white christian woman have supreriority over a black man (even if he was muslim) by default? Is it her vagina or whitness that would automatically grant her status? I doubt Oprah would pick anyone based on race or gender--she simply picks people based on what they can do for this country---this time, it happens to be a black man, do you find that strange?

EDIT:

Rebel F: Firstly, not all blacks support Obama. Some of the powerful black figures have actually endorsed Hillary, so that theory is simply false. Secondly, Oprah's audience is NOT mostly black women LOL. Black women are simply not powerful enough to build Oprah up to become the most powerful woman in the world. Even if one was to exclude the millions of people supporting her in the United States (non-black), Oprah is being broacasted internationally and she's an icon to Europeans, Asians, Middle Easterns and they are certainly NOT black.

EDIT:

Josh, being a loyal Oprah audience member, I know Oprah supported Obama from back in the day when he was unknown and not so popular. So your statement about the safe bet and numbers are simply not true.

EDIT II Josh:
Agreed :)

I wouldn't vote for anybody because of their gender or race. Although, it's tempting because It would be really cool to have our first female president and I think Hilary has what it takes.

I am, however, afraid that if Barack looses we will have mass riots and looting in our cities.

Seriously, though, whomever gets elected can't do much worse than the one we have now.

I think we should kill two birds with one stone and elect Oprah!

I don't care if our next president is green, purple, hermaphrodite, alien, rainbow spotted ... as long as they do a good job!

Paul, it is Obama and he is not a Muslim.

I don't care who backs who. Ms. Winfrey has the right to do whatever she wants for her own reasons. People have the right to follow her lead. I will vote my own conscience and I haven't made up my mind yet.
C. :)!!
