Because they want their cake and eat it too. Be smart try to look your best and keep your head up. If it doesn't work out there is someone out their that will treat you better..

Many reasons. But point is if he admits it then he has to DO something about it- like end the *affair*, or divorce you, or pay the consequentness of his actions, people will know, etc... Its easier for him just to deny otherwise he'd have to face his deep rooted character flaws. No one likes to do that.

Yes, unfortunately some do. If they were a real man or woman they would admit it. But, some people think that the longer they deny no matter how bad the situation they are still saving face. My philosophy on this matter is this.. If you do it.. OWN IT.

Would you want to admit you screwed up big time and pay the consequences? As long as they are in denial they feel people can't pass judgement even if they are caught.

As long as they can deny it, the more time it buys them to think of a rational excuse you may take as truth. Of course that never works!!

a male, of course? They all lie like this. Lack of imagination, mostly. They break a cap on your eyes, you say: you broke my favorite cup! He makes his eyes bulge: No, I do not!
Men can't hold two thoughts at once in their heads. They are one-thought persons. So, their thought is - to deny. It fills all of their brains, leaving no space to think about how to do it.

Because this is part of their character; to be deceptive and dishonest. You are married to a dishonest person, period. He is dishonest today, he will be dishonest tomorrow and the next day and the next. How OK are you with living with that for the rest of your life?
