The curved surface on top causes the non-turbulent air to move aside faster than the unmoved air underneath. Bernouli's Law Moving air results in a lower pressure which gives lift. Turning it over makes the lift force drive it downward.

well...they do...but when thrown upside down, the aerodynamic lift they generate points the same direction as gravity - and they fly into the dirt pretty quickly.
