How many here are disgusted by Oprah's support of Obama? I think her brains would outweigh her prejudice - is it pretty obvious to me that Oprah is for blacks, in spite of the fact that whites and blacks who made who she is today. But, whenever she invests time/money into a project or a cause, it only benefits the black community.

Her school for girls serves blacks, her support for Obama appears to be only because he is black. When she made a film, The Color Purple, it was about blacks...

I have always liked Oprah, but the more she does this, the more she loses me as a fan.

Anyone who supports Obama is risking a loss in 2008 and we badly, BADLY need a Dem pres to win, and he is too inexperienced to deal with the huge job of fixing the disasters made by Bush.

Wake up, Oprah, this is not the time and place for games about race.

And to top it off, polls show that blacks loved Bill Clinton and support Hillary in larger numbers than they do Obama.

EDIT: "I would not want someone telling me who to support."

EXACTLY!

And that is what Oprah is doing, telling her viewers to support him like she's a product to be endorsed - hey, it's not a car or a facial cream, this will be the leader of the free world, far more serious...

STEVEN C -

I am a racist?

Far from it. What I was saying is that I have always been a big fan of hers and it's becoming evident that SHE is a racist...if not, why do all of her pet projects benefit blacks only?

Update at 1:52PM -

Thank you all for the responses here, and it seems many of you do understand that what she is doing is like marketing a product (attempt at it) rather than putting what is best for America first.

The people that vote based on who supports or endorses a candidate are hard to understand, I think for myself.

I completely agree with you, and also wonder why no one ever points this out. I agree with you so much on everything you have said here that I feel like you read my mind! Anyone with any sense will vote for Hillary in '08! This country has spiraled so far out of control. It just amazes me that some people don't see things for what they are and don't seem to want a solution. It sickens me that so many people will vote for a candidate based on one issue alone (whether it's the candidate's race or the war or the family values issue, etc...) I read a poll that said up to 40% of voters do this! Not sure if that's correct, but what a scary thought!

Having just read an article about this topic on the yahoo home page, I found myself a little outraged. Not because Oprah is supporting someone black, for me it has nothing to do with race. She can support anyone she wants. I think it has more to do with an issue of the public voters. I find it disgusting that people will vote for someone because Oprah tells them too and you know it will happen. I am sure their are white and black women out there changing or making up their minds because of Oprah's support. If someone changes there vote because Oprah decided who she like as her favorite candidate then in my personal opinion they should not be allowed to vote. She might as well have had him as one of her "favorite things", clearly he would have won right then! But, sadly this is what some people do, they follow others opinions and not their own. I also find it disgusting that Obama thinks having Oprah as his running buddy will win over votes. How about telling us what you will do if you become president not showing us who your friends are and how you hate the other candidates. I was undecided, but I am quickly making up my mind.

Honestly, as much as I respect Ms. Winfrey, I do not agree with her choice of dabbling in politics. As well, the last time I checked, not everything Oprah does, benefits the black community. Have you seen the majority of people in her audience, especially when she's giving away something????? Anyway, I think supporting Obama, and throwing in her celebrity power could ruin things for him. Even though he doesn't have experience, he could end up doing a better job for this country than some of his other opponents. She can support who she wants, but if I were her, I would back off a little, and try not to be so involved. If she wants him to win, she'll let him try to win votes himself.

I am not a fan of Obama based on philosophy that Big Government is the problem not the solution.

Oprah has the right to support anyone that she wants to be president.

This school is in area that people is very neglected in the World. She is making a difference. We have a lot of opportunities here but it is up to us to make it.

The Color Purple is a good film.

Therefore, I see nothing wrong with Oprah. She is not a racist. She is doing something with her MONEY.

It is her money, and she can do what she wants with it.

I disagree with you. Have you looked at it this way....Oprah has had a different life experience and is of a different culture than white people. I am white. Oprah is an African American who is proud of her culture and her ancestors' struggles.
Her support of Obama is not about a "Black " experience; it's about who will be the best candidate in her mind and who SHE supports. It is not a game about race.

It's obvious you feel we need a Democrat to win. Obama IS a Democrat. And for those who say he doesn't have the experience, that isn't true. He was a Constitutional Law Professor, so he understands Constitutional Law, Trade, diplomacy, and any other subject that falls under that heading.
He has also worked at the grassroots level of politics. I can tell you that I worked at it in 2004 for another candidate, and you learn more than reading any book or listening to any candidate speak.

Obama is extremely intelligent, diplomatic, and is a lot better than what we have now-in all ways a President needs to be.
And really, it's not exactly all about the President. They surround themselves with advisors in their closest realm and in their cabinet who can help them make decisions.

I completely agree with you! Obama has no experience to be placed in the white house, and I find it strange that Oprah has never gone this far out on a limb to endorse a candidate before ..and now she is? Is this a race thing for her?...one would think so.

your absolutely correct. its kind of funny because my friends and I were just talking about this.

i like barack obama and think he has great intentions, but i dont think he is ready to rule the country. he has only been in legislature for 9 years and we need someone whose dealed with america longer.

now why cant oprah support her fellow woman, hillary clinton? i support clinton in this race because she knows what she is doing. yes, she has changed her mind ALOT from the past, but only for the better. and that's just what all politicians do.

so oprah might be on the wrong side right now.... ugh

First of all, Oprah has the RIGHT to throw her support behind whomever she chooses. If she supported Hillary, would she JUST be supporting another woman?? After all, her school is just for girls.
Second, do you KNOW all the charitable work Oprah does? It is ALL just for "blacks"? When she gives her audience cars, is it just the "blacks" in the audience that get cars?
I disagree with her candidate, and her, but she can support whatever candidate she sees fit.
