They are very easy to sex
The males have a pointed fin beneath the analfin, which is called a gonopodium
whereas the females have 2 small fanned out fins in it's place
here is an article with pics for you to sex them
http://www.fishlesscycling.com/articles/how_to_sex_your_fish.html
Also once you have sexed them, make sure you have more females then males
the best ratio is 2 females to every 1 male
As for the decoration, buy them at a petstore, that way you know that they're aquarium safe
Hope that helps
Good luck

The best way to tell the gender of any livebearer is the shape of the anal fin (this is the one on the bottom nearest the tail). The male's is thin and pointed, but the female's is similar to her other fins. Use the link Eve gave you for photos (Hers was a good answer, other than the anal fin is a single fin, not two. I don't know why people gave her answer thumbs down!). Since this develops around 3 months of age, any guppies (or mollies, platys, or swordtails) you buy should be easy to determine.
If you want the fish to reproduce, I recommend buying some plants (real or artificial). The female will use these when she gives birth, and the fry can hide out until they're large enough not to be eaten by any adults. This eliminates the need for a breeder net and trying to guess when to put the female into it.

The males are smaller and a lot more color-full and bright, they also have much larger tails, they are very pretty. The females are bigger and more plain looking, they usually have bigger bellies and plain rounded tail fins. Also the males have colorful top fins where the females don't. You can put any kind of caves, rocks, plants, any kind of fish accesseries will do well with them, they are not picky. Plants are good because they will breed like crazy, before you know it there will be 20 to 100 fry! The fry will like to hide for a while, so you should have places for them to do that. I hope that helps

fancy or feeders??? fancy guppy females have a smaller tail fan...(most of the time) and they have an anal fin... males are generally smaller and have a very large tail fan and are more colorful....... I'd say put some live plants and a cave.....when your guppies have fry they will want to hide so what I did was take long flat rocks and made layers with gaps in between so that the fry could hide where the adults couldn't get them...

Females are larger and rounder, males are skinny and usually have larger tails. The female has a round anal fin and the male has a long pointy fin that they hold close to their body.
You can put anything you want in the tank as long as it isn't toxic. The parents will eat the fry so if you want to raise them you need to add lots of places for them to hide. Rocks, fake grass and clay pots work for hiding places.

If they are mixed together, you are going to have a million of them before you know it. They are worse than rabbits.
