I have both open for discussion, but it seems like no one ever sends me anything nice! It's all threats of reporting, or someone just being just plain mean regarding an answer I gave!! I'm thinking of just disallowing both to keep people from being so mean to me! What do you guys think/ what do you do?

Can you guys tell me why you allow them or don't, if you have a reason? Bad experience, etc.

You have the right of choice..be composed..don't lose your head for some non-sense people....ignore the intruders and threats...let them serve as a spice to your being here..meanwhile, I actually acknowledge every mail I receive...I get emails of that sort too, mostly commenting on my avatar..I just thank them politely and for good emails, I answer them right away and appreciate their kindness...live and let live...just gather experiences here..but don't let these mails dampen your spirits...dont allow them(emails) annoy you or insult you..take them all as a grain of salt...after all.........there are more of the better hearts than the sinisters......ok???cheer up!

The people who do that, do it for several reasons. Some of the emails they get might be from some someone who didn't like their answer to a question. I get a few of these, and find them entertaining. Maybe the last email they got was from an irate nutcase. Others have views, ask, or answer questions in confrontational ways-- designed to rile the general users here. They too, have probably gotten a few strongly worded emails from time to time. Other simply do it so they don't have to answer emails, or to keep an email address private.

At first, when I came on here, I allowed both. Then I got some really mean IMs, plus, the people that were sending them wouldn't leave me alone, so I disallowed that. I still have email open, but I haven't checked it in a long time! oops!

Yes I do allow them.
I have had people search me out and tell me where they found my name and why they wanted to speak to me , by looking at my profiles. They've learned I have other places I go and I seek me out there/
Plus one of my goals for me being here, is to help others see the positive or good parts of life or impacts life has come their ways. That no matter how bad life seems toget at times. There is always something better out there waiting for them and a silver linging behind each dark cloud in life. I also allow my answers to questions to be viewed by others here. so that they may see one they feel they could share an answer with.
If you are looking for friend you can always pop into my space or here on y360 and and many others . I have other names though for different places but myspace uses this same email.
I would of sent you something before now but I didnt know you were here or looking for contacts.

I allow emails and IMs. People have sent me mean stuff (they quickly stop because they soon realize that I can be a real "you-know-what" LOL), nice stuff, and stupid stuff, but I just give back to them what they give to me lol. That does not bother me, because I know that I can "hold my own" no matter what type of person sends me an email/message.

i didn't have mail on but then the other day i changed it so people could because i wanted somebody on here to e-mail me something, i just put the e-mail address (i have many) that i use for junk mail and besides they cant see the e-mail address so that doesn't matter, and you can alsways change it so no one can e-mail you if for somereason you are getting weird e-mails!

Nope. At this point in time I'm not bored enough to want to be bothered with it. Plus--while there are some great people out there, some are just plane a****les. Don't let those idiots ruin your fun though.

I allow both, but half the time I'm on y/a, I'm at work and can't get on IM.
