My baby did in the hospital, I was so scared that I have always had her sleep with me! To ease the gas you can get some Mylicon gas drops, the are like miracle drops! Good luck.

If you're burping her after every meal and she still has gas, that might be normal.

A week old baby's digestive system is not fully developed (it won't be fully developed until the child is 3-4 years old). If you're bottle feeding (and not breast feeding), which it sounds like, you could try changing her formula to something that is more easily digested - but with time, it should get better.

As for laying a baby on its side, you could use a pillow specifically designed for baby side sleeping OR you can try rolling blankets and putting them against her so that they will support the baby so she doesn't roll onto her back nor her stomach (!). After awhile, she'll be able to change her sleeping position no matter how you put her.

They also sell inclined foam pads (or wedges) that raise the baby's head so that she doesn't have "acid reflux" (or gagging).

Good luck.

Keep her in an inclined position for about a half an hour after feeding. Yes it is fine to let them sleep on their side. I had my kids sleep on their side up untill 2 months then let them sleep on their backs. U could also get a infant wedge for a slight incline. Your baby bottle-feed? If so the flow on the nipple could be to fast for her if she's doing alot of gagging. The gas is normal They have a very immature digestive system at this time. Some swear by Mylacon gas drops or gripe water that it helps, maybe for some did not work with mine. I formula fed I ended up switching from regular enfamil to enfamil gentlease, it has reduced lactose and the milk protiens are partialy broken down for easier digestion. This formula worked great and helped with her fussiness & gas. I didn't switch her untill 3 weeks old. Good luck.

My son had similar problems. Does she gag any other time other then in her sleep. My son would gag at other times. I waited for five weeks until I called our Dr. It turned out that he had acid reflux and needed medicine. Also does she spit up an hour or more after she eats. That was another thing that my son did.

If you feel that there is something wrong with your son the call the doctor and do not let up until he or she listens to you.

My daughter was born 1 pound 8 ounces, she is now a healthy 7 year old; I am not a doctor. You may want to discuss a formula change she may be intolerate to it, she may be uncomfortable sleeping becasue she has heart burn or acid reflux. I put my daughter on a wedge when she was little not a pillow a wedge, if you do not have a wedge you may be able to incline her mattress before you take any of my suggestions I advise you talk to your babies doctor. PS stay concerned

don't lay her on her back right after feeding. If she is on her stomach she can work off some of the gas. The best thing is to lay her on her left side.
