She may "deserve it" as you said, but you will be sinking to her level if you do anything for revenge.
I have had two friendships come to an abrupt end due to being backstabbed and lied to by both of them! I have decided, since then, that having an actual FRIEND just isn't worth it. I have many acquaintances and tons of family (most importantly my husband and children). I don't want or need anymore so-called "friends".
My advice to you: turn around, walk away, don't look back or talk to the person anymore. It's THEIR loss, not yours!

I don't think you have any obligation to respond at all. She betrayed your trust and you are done with trusting her. If she can't figure out that she betrayed your trust and that's why you are upset with her - then you are better off without her as a friend or acquaintance. Obviously, you should be polite when you encounter her on the job. Say hello if she says hello first, but I wouldn't go out of my way to be nice. Be prepared that at some time you may have to suck it up and tell her point blank - you betrayed my trust and I no longer have a need for you in my personal life. Unfortunately I've experienced a similar event. People at work would inquire about my romantic life, which I had no problem being honest about, and then it was severely contorted into this horrible, abusive relationship where I was emotionally and mentally unstable. As said best by the entire cast of the X-Files... Trust No One. (Finally. 7.25.08)

She is already taking revenge for you... nobody will want to hang around this manipulative psycho for very long once they figure out what she is on about.
She has no self-esteem and has been watching waaaayyy too many soap operas.
If anyone asks about her, you can set them straight.
Go find some new friends.
Just sit back and watch the fireworks, and remember that Universal Law is very much in effect. What goes around comes around. What you sow so shall you reap.

...she's doing this to get attention. The best thing you can do is smile and ignore it. Next thing you know, others will be doing the same thing. She wants you to react...don't give her the satisfaction. Just smile...say, "hi" if you want...but don't give her any ammunition...just be as sweet as you can be. If anyone says something to you about something she said, just respond..."I'm sorry to hear that"...and that's it. Deprive her of the attention. Godloveya.

I agree with the first four answerers. I had an ex-best friend like that. We were friends from gr. 3 - freshman year in college. I just won't speak to her anymore and she moved away.

If you do this, you will have stooped to her level. Just tell her when have heard something that she has said about you, tell her that you are hurt by her actions and ask her is their something that you did that has caused this. If not, then tell her to leave your name out of the conversations! Good luck.
