I went on a trip to Washington DC yesterday. It was a school trip. We were in front of the White House and taking pictures. We were there for a little while and I turned to look back across the park to see if our bus was back. When I noticed this women, who we had all walked passed, but did not see. She was sitting across from the WHITE HOUSE protesting war. She had two anti-war signs and a make shift home - a plastic tarp over herself and her few belongings. It was a cold and rainy/sleeting day. She is a homeless women living across the street from The White House. All that money a stone's throw away.

So guess what I did? I walked across the street and sat with her. I listened to her and took pictures. I spent time with her.

Then I had to go back across the street to rejoin my group and this time when I looked at The White House, my stomach turned and I started to cry!!!!

What do you think about this? (Not what I did, but the situation.)

I just proves what I have said before, that our country is run by an elitist group of career politicians from the richest of families who have nothing to gain by helping the little person. Our government is no longer of the people, but of the top 5% who only look out for their own. It is time for a change in the way our government operates, and that change starts with us, the people who the government is supposed to be for.

Be Good Santa is Comeing, gave a very good answer Penny. So did the veteran, Sorry man your name slipped my mind. I am grateful to every man or woman that has been or is currently in the service. But he's right they fight for our right of freedom of choice.
What you did Penny was a very compassionate thing, it's not some thing I would thought to do, but wife would have.
If you got details of her life e-mail em if you don't mind an a photo.
It's sad that americans are homeless , some choose that life style. In a news article here last year they interviewed a homeless guy. He stands at exits on interstate an wal-mart begging money. $300.00 or more is what he gets DAILY just by begging!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree, We are spending trillions of dollars everywhere else in this world, but right in our own country we turn a blind eye to the homeless, the sick and the less fortunate. Out country has gotton to the stage of what I have said for years, GREED is what we now stand for. This is now what made this country great. This is not what our for-fathers fought so hard for.
The only trouble with my rants is that there are not more of them from others who can make a difference. We definitely need more leaders not more politicians.
I believe that YOU do understand.
God Bless!!

the politicians think they are doing something for their country but they are not looking at trivial things that matters the most... they look at the so-called "bigger picture" but miss out on what is important.. that is sad.

not sure if we can call them narrow minded or educated fools. they somehow see things in a different way. They are insecure and probably their utmost national interest is hard for them to balance, which has a detrimental effects on their own people.

I hope i made a little sense....

I think it is beautiful what you did ...... it was very sweet and compassionate what you did ...... I find it quite ironic that a homeless person is camped right across from the White House but sadly I am not surprised about it ...... our country has always been run by rich, elitest groups whether they are democrats or republicans ....... = )

It all depends on what her story is. I know a homeless man who if you give him a sandwich, he'll throw it in your face. Same man was also offered a job by my former boss. He ripped up the application and threw it at her. Some people make poor choices in life. Bottom line...not enough information about her situation.

Well, Sorry but I wouldn't have done what you did. I would not and do not take pitty on anyone as you have described. She was or is there on or by her own choice. A choice which I as well as MANY VETERANS have given her by defending this nation we live in. She has the right and the freedom to protest. She was or is excerising this right and freedom which we help give her.
