I've heard washing a gundam models parts is required before actually starting to put it together. Why may this be so?

Almost ALL styrene-plastic models have a LIGHT coating of silicon release-agent from when they were molded. THIS can affect how the paint will later adhere to the model.

I wash my parts ON the sprue (plastic parts "trees") in the kitchen sink in just-warm water and dish soap, and then let them air-dry.

ALSO be careful when building your model... your the oils from your fingers can also affect how well the paint will adhere. I wash my hands before working on models, and in SOME cases actually wear very light cotton gloves.

GOOD luck and Enjoy your Building
