I have always been a conservative, though I don't support our current administration. I have noticed that conservatives constantly call liberals' patriotism into question. I do not see liberals accusing conservatives of being unpatriotic nearly as much. Do I have to support a war that is, in my opinion, unjust and support a president I believe to be unfit in order to be a conservative? Must I blindly follow any leader who is conservative? Does it not make better sense to try to understand both sides than to paint everyone who is against the war as anti-American? I still strongly disagree with the vast majority of liberal ideals, but I don't believe liberals to be evil, nor do I think they support their country's enemies. Watch how opposing politicians interact. Most seem to be friendly, if not down-right chummy with their adversaries. Do you think this is disingenuous or do they simply learn to leave their jobs at the office?

Don't get me wrong, liberals do their fair share of mudslinging too, I just don't hear them playing the "unpatriotic" card so much. Both parties vilify each other and I believe that is the wrong way to make progress.

Read ret-roch-cop's post and you will see a typical closed-minded conservative. He calls into question my conservativism because he disagrees with me. If you disagree with a conservative, then you must be a liberal. I'll tell you what, cop, I am proud of the fact that I form my own opinion based on whatever knowledge I can gather, rather than follow like a blind sheep to slaughter. If that makes me not conservative, then good for me!!

I do not hate liberals. I hate the left wing loons who uses their hatred to route for the enemies of the United States because Bush is the President. This is wrong.
Liberals uses commonsense does not stoop to the left wing loons.

Glad to see a conservative who doesn't support the blind anti intelectual hate against liberals and other political opponents. Unfortunately you are very much the minority and certainly on Yahoo.
The problem with conservatives isn't the everyday conservatives themselves; it's the people they listen to. Conservative leaders, in their vilification of liberals, tell so many lies about what liberals are supposed to believe, support, say, do, etc., that the everyday conservatives end up hating a fictional enemy. If what the pundits said about liberals was true, I'd be a hardcore conservative.
If liberals were so terrible, these pundits and politicians would have no reason to lie at all. They could just recite facts and let them stand for themselves. Instead they take part in character assassination and avoid speaking about actual issues. They make blanket statements that have no basis in fact. What's worse is that many of them cloak their rhetoric in a pseudo-Christian guise to act as if God is somehow on their side (even though the Bible basically tells them to pray quietly and stay out of politics).
Virtually all of the lies that are told about liberals are easily shattered with the barest attempt at rationality and reason. The facts stand for themselves, yet so much mud is slung that the facts are like gems buried under several feet of mud. The facts are there, and are obvious and clear, but unfortunately one must dig through all the crap that is spewed in order to bring them to light. When one digs a handful of it away, the pundits are expert at piling on even more crap, or more often, will distract and divert away from the digging.

America has been a successful Capitalistic free market society. The Liberals want to change that to the enslavement of a Communistic society. This according to said Republicans is not very American and so the anti American label.

They do it because if most people new the true meaning of liberal they would become liberal and big gov does not want people to be thinking about freedom and real democracy if they can convince people of there fake democracy.
That is also why they they don't really teach kids about the Constitution or real American history and patriots.
There is currently a silent brainwashing going on
Patriot = terrorist
Patriot = evil doers
patriot= anti American

madlib-I agree 110% with you-when Bush said that I said then I guess I am not with you. I have resented to the nth degree being called unpatriotic by the people on the far right who think that because I want our troops home with their families that I do not support the troops-my question to them is always-"if you feel so strong that we should be there then why don't you trade places with a servicemember so they can be with their family for the holidays?
I do not know how long this country can stand when it is so divided...........

I am also a conservative.
I have always respected that there are 2 parties that both love America.
There are differences in our beliefs about what is good for America and Americans, but both are patriotic.
This name calling and labeling seems to have come from the extreme neocons that have infiltrated my party.

Because they can and seem able to get away with it. They also call us anti-Christian. Conservatives just need to take a few deep breaths of real clean oxygen and recover their senses. Talk radio and Fox have been gassing them for waaaayyy too long.

Because Bush himself said that "if you aren't with us, you're against us." Pretty harsh words. Way to try and unite the country Mr. President.
I commend you for speaking out against your party which is known for it's way of putting it's loyalty to those alike before doing or saying the right thing.

Because it's the drum beat they hear countless times a day on talk radio, on blogs, on Fox, etc. That may seem like a flip, partisan answer but I really think it's the truth.

They are small minded people who like to have a scapegoat.
Instead of trying to understand the complexities of politics, it is much easier for them to blame everything on the libs and call them commies.

Because when one is unwilling and or unable to show any semblance of objectivity or substantive ideas, that leaves ad hominem attacks, which are much easier to resort to than rational dialog that steers clear of caricatures and stereotypes.
