Bush emphasis on ethanol stands out
By PHILIP BRASHER • REGISTER WASHINGTON BUREAU • January 24, 2007
Washington, D.C. - President Bush proposed Tuesday to require motorists to use 35 billion gallons of ethanol and other alternative fuels by 2017, a move that could have a far-reaching effect on agriculture and Iowa's economy.
That is nearly seven times the amount of ethanol distilled from corn last year. Some of the additional ethanol would come from increasing corn acreage in Iowa and elsewhere. But the rest would have to come from sources of plant cellulose, inedible material such as crop residue, perennial grasses and wood chips.

the price of corn was already rising, long before Demoocrats gained a slight advantage in the legislature. The ethanol idea came from a Republican controlled administration and legislature and was aimed at helping farmers that were losing money on corn. Your info is wrong and the blame is on the wrong side of the aisle.

Typically narrow-minded, partisan hogwash.
Consider that ethanol -- a corn-based product -- has become more popular, despite the fact that it has a negative effect on corn products for the consumer, it is not ecologically suitable as an alternative, and is not economically suitable in the long term as a petroleum additive.
This is not partisan issue.

I assume the billions of people in the world are standing on dry land...this land can be tilled irrigated, fertilized for
growing their own food....I think it is time America begins
taking care of America and allowing the rest of the world to
feed itself. It is about time we do something about selling
our souls to oil producing regimes who take our money
to build bombs to throw back at us. This way we can
have our breakfast and drive our cars too while these
'bomb builders' will be a little poorer in the process.

No, the republicans already started that downward spiral.
1 example:
Gas prices (thanks Bush for not stepping in - but wait isnt your family an oil vested family. I guess it pays to keep oil prices at a high). Farmers cant afford to transport their crops to market and will at some point be forced to stop their agricultural means of earning money
UPDATE: GO FOXY

How about the HIGH cost of delivering these products to the stores due high gas prices?? Do we have to wait till the cost is $10 a gal before we look for different means of energy?
Too bad america didn't listen to jimmy carter............we would have had better cars, maybe better mass transit, different energy.

You are making this all up because you read another Neocons post. Try using facts to back up your mindless babble. Democrats are going to save this country from imminent destruction brought on by the President you elected, not once, but twice. How stupid. Are you proud of your ignorance yet? I'm sure you are.

We as Americans (not dems or repubs) need to focus on solar and hydorgen energy. We have that big ball in the sky that's not going anywhere in our lifetime. We need to end our dependence on OPEC nations that don't like us.
