You just made my day better by saying this about Elvis. Elvis wasn't a good singer, he was a GREAT singer, the greatest ever. His gospel albums are the greatest gospel albums ever recorded. His Christmas albums are my favorites.

My second favorite is probably Robert Plant, but I can't find any gospel recordings or Christmas recordings by Led Zeppelin.

Go figure!

Elvis of course is a rock legend and changed the face of rock & roll forever. Never has a singer/performer been so well loved before or since. He had so many great songs and hits in his fabulous career but a lot of folks don't realize just how great a gospel singer he was as he a grammy for his gospel album How Great Thou Art. Whether you like him or not, he is certainly one of the all time greats of American music history.

I think Elvis was a good singer a really good singer.......however, I think Elvis got a lot more credit than he deserved in regards to the development of the genre of music he performed (IE) being called "the father of Rock and Roll" (a close relative of Rhythm and Blues)..............music that was widely already "out" and being performed by black or African American artists; but not popularly recognized as such until performed by a "white musician "Elvis", he was good, but it's a shame racism kept artists like Arthur Crudup, Rufus Thomas, and B.B. King who were already doing what Elvis did, from being recognized on that same level for certainly their talent was as great.......they just performed with a different complexion!

I loved Elvis & he was & still is one of the best. Long live the King of great singing & I too love the gospel. I heard him the first time he performed on the Grand Ole Opra. They made a bit of fun of him, but I told my husband that night as we lay in bed listening to him on the radio, That boy is going places. And he did. ~ He did lots of good for others & loved his Mama. We where saddened by his destruction of self. I hope he is with his Mama. ~~~~~~~

I saw Elvis perform in San Francisco! It was the most awesome concert, I ever went to! It's so sad that he died so young! He was truly the KING OF ROCK AND ROLL and no one will ever come close to him. All his songs have so much emotion in them, especially his Gospel Songs. Elvis may be gone, but he will NEVER be forgotten! Elvis is an ICON! R.I.P. Elvis! We Love You and Miss You!!!

Elvis will be remembered Long after most of the siggers of today are long forgotten. He was one of the great music icons. Sadly many of them like Elvis and Karen Carpenter they seem to die way too young.

My mother was a fan, so I was exposed to his music as a child. I even remember where I was when I heard he was dead.

A good singer? Yes, but not on my top ten list.
