geforce 8600M with 512 dedicated video ram..wil this laptop play the new games on the market? if not what kind of games?

um......i don't think there is a laptop with 512mb dedidcated video ram yet...but LG is selling one that has 256mb dedicated video ram which will work when playing games. In my opinion, you shouldn't need that much video ram if you're just going to play games. The LG model is R500-V.CPF1A9 which is selling at Future Shop (In Canada).

I've just brought a new laptop and I went for the Toshiba, the details you have given do make the Acer look like the better buy but I expect I would still have the Toshiba given the choice.

But also pay to upgrade the graphics card.
Helps stop gaming freeze ups.

Well, I would try http://dell.com , and second, I would upgrade to 1 gb ram.
