If

3X+6=5X-8

To solve for X you need to get a term with X in it on its own so move the +6 over to the other side of the equation i.e the other side of the equals sign. When it moves across it becomes its opposite i.e. a positive number becomes a negative number so

3X=5X-8-6 or 3X=5X-14

So you can see that the difference between the two sides of the equation is 2X and -14 i.e if you reduce 5X by 14 it is the same as 3X so 2X=14, so 1X or X = 14/2=7.

You can prove this in the original equation as

3X+6= 27 where X = 7

and

5X-8 = 35-8=27 where X=7

as both sides equal eachother with the number you have solved for - 7 - it must be right

Simplifying
3x + 6 = 5x + -8

Reorder the terms:
6 + 3x = 5x + -8

Reorder the terms:
6 + 3x = -8 + 5x

Solving
6 + 3x = -8 + 5x

Solving for variable 'x'.

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-5x' to each side of the equation.
6 + 3x + -5x = -8 + 5x + -5x

Combine like terms: 3x + -5x = -2x
6 + -2x = -8 + 5x + -5x

Combine like terms: 5x + -5x = 0
6 + -2x = -8 + 0
6 + -2x = -8

Add '-6' to each side of the equation.
6 + -6 + -2x = -8 + -6

Combine like terms: 6 + -6 = 0
0 + -2x = -8 + -6
-2x = -8 + -6

Combine like terms: -8 + -6 = -14
-2x = -14

Divide each side by '-2'.
x = 7

Simplifying
x = 7

3x+6=5x-8
3x-3x+6+8=5x-3x-8+8
14=2x
Divide both sides by 2 so that x will be retained
7=x
If x=7 then...
3(7)+6=5(7)-8
21+6=35-8
27=27
So 3x+6 is equal to 5x-8

3x+6=5x-8 then
isolate the vaiables
move 5x over with the 3x and move 6 with the -8 so you have
3x-5x=-8-6
so then you have
-2x=-14 then you divide both sides by -2 so thenyou have
x= 7

3x+6=5x-8 (add8 to both sides)
3x+14=5x (-3x from both sides)
14=2x (divide by 2 from each side)
7=x (the answer)

3x + 6 = 5x - 8

Transpose 3x

3x + 6 - 3x = 5x - 8 - 3x

Collect like terms

6 = 2x - 8

Transpose 8

6 + 8 = 2x - 8 + 8

Collect liike terms

14 = 2x

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

14 / 2 = 2x / 2

14/2 = x

7 = x
