My Car is Geo Prism 1997 1.6 L. The audometer is 130000. While going uphill at constant speed of 40 or 45 my car looses accelaration for a moment and again regains it. This also some time happens on flat road. This does not happen if I keep pumping the acclerator(like from 45 let it come to around 38 and again pump to 45). What do I have to do to fix this?

Sounds like a dead spot in the throttle position sensor. They wear out after a while, especially if you keep the throttle in one place for long periods of time. You can test it yourself with a multimeter before replacing anything. should sweep from 1-5 volts smoothly. If the signal voltage drops out you found a dead spot.

Yes it most likely needs some engine work (spark plugs and such as well as maybe a timing belt).
But I think that you are trying to cruse where the shift point is (assuming that it is an automatic).
So to avoid this just drive a little faster (or slower). Even after you get the maintenance items taken care of.

Many possible causes here.
go with a tune up first-- plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
if still a problem you may need some injectors replaced.
I would start with the electrical system first though especially if you notice this symtom more so when its wet outside.
Another possible cause is the ignitor.

The car repair could have many answers - one or more.
How long since you changed the fuel filter ? Could be early signs of fuel pump failure ? Possibly fuel injector problems; dirty or beginning to fail. Best to see a qualified mechanic.
