I would tell them and give it back. Anyway you look at it, if you know someone gave you to much change back and you keep it, its stealing. It doesn't require them to know they gave you to much to be considered stealing, only that you know they did and you took it anyway. Thats how I try to go by.

I would keep it back. Cashiers have their money drawers monitored and at the end of the shift you have to count up your drawers and if their are discrepancies to the amount in your drawer as to what the management is saying you should have you are "penalized". Sometimes if it's just a few dollars you are missing then the management is okay with it.. but if your missing alot then they start suspecting things...
I've worked as a cashier and sometimes I've given too much change by accident so I was happy when people were nice enough to give back the change.

I used to work in retail and I know they will sack you if you come up "short" too often.
I ALWAYS return any extra money. I don't want to contribute to someone losing a job they might need to stay out of a homeless shelter or to feed their children.
Besides: if I know they gave me too much and I didn't return it...it would be stealing. That money is not mind, it belongs to that business.
Thief is one of the leading reasons why businesses raise their prices.
If you are not part of the solution...you are part of the problem.

i would give it back to them, it is morally wrong to keep something that is not yours.... if i kept it then the cashier may get in trouble and get fired because the boss person would have thought he/she took the money..... i would feel guilt as well........but if it is a penny, that doesnt count.... if my change back has a penny in it i just tell them to keep it, so there are a lot of pennies out there that would have been mine... ;)

If I was a regular customer at the store I would give it back. If the cashier was friendly I would give it back. If the cashier was cute I would give it back.
So if I'm in a place I don't normally shop, and got rude treatment by somebody that didn't even have a nice smile, I would probably keep it.

Honestly, I usually just put my change in my pocket without counting it and I might never realize if I got the wrong amount back. I would certainly return it if I knew about it.

I don't usually check how much change they give me back. I just look and see if it's about accurate then I go away. I don't bother counting it. But if I do see they give me too much change back, I'll tell them.

Guilty feeling is not enough, you should not keep the change in future. Thank you for a good question!

I would have to give it back because everyone makes mistakes and shop workers aren't generally the best paid workers in the world so it would be horrible for them to get it in the neck for my dishonesty.
