My son was slammed by another child in his elementary school. (My son is 10, but small for his age). The other child, a male, also, screamed at him, "MOVE!", and near knocked him on his buns. My son got angry, and yelled at him "RETARD!"
My son got a warning that next time he called anyone "retard" he is to report to the teacher, and write a 2 paragraph paper on why he called someone retard. If he had called the offending child "stupid", or a "dork", no report, or paper is required of him.
What is the difference, and is THIS Political Correctness at it's WORST AGAIN?????????

The child who slammed into my son on purpose was not retarded! My son called him that for hitting him, meanly! He, my son, was angry at the other boy for being disrespectful. I do believe I was QUITE clear????

Tell your son to punch him in the nose next time, and as he's falling to the floor, call him "intellectually challenged".

One might ask one`s self , did the boy`s feelings`that got called a retard get hurt as bad as your son being slammed into ? Liberal Socialist rule with words , not actions , that is why you have this Politically Correct B S eating away at American society like a cancer . If the Liberal socialist ever have to fight a war , in their eyes` , they can win with words` . If that doesn`t work then they can throw all their "Revised Meanings Dictionary's" at their enemies , and try to define them to death ?

I just posted an answer to retch_cop 's question about 'politicle correctness', in this political category.
If you have a chance, read it, I have calmed down, now, and do not feel that 2 suspensions with in a few minuets, for the same answer, would 'smooth out my day'.
btw, see ya @ m-ply.

I would not consider this a political issue, rather, a very important issue for your son that should be carefully addressed to him, AND, in the form of a conference, with the teacher. Bullying is not acceptable and causes great harm to our children, and, is being increasingly recognized as a growing, and terrible, problem.

Since mentally handicapped children have been mainstreamed into regular schools, there was likely to be one on the bus.

Why didn't your son just use the retarded persons NAME as an insult? Next time, tell him to just scream a retarded persons name at the other kid. The retarded peoples feelings don't count here as long as your kid can be free? Right?

By the way - children tend to learn their responses to aggression at home. How is it that screaming 'retard' is his first choice?

EDIT: You are still missing the point. If you use the term RETARD as an insult in the hearing range of a mentally handicapped person, then you have insulted that person, too.
Does he also yell "ARE YOU HANDICAPPED?" at other kids when they trip?

Stupid is as stupid does....anybody can suffer from that malady for the moment.
But referring to calling a retard,a retard is insensitive to his constant malady.

There you have just had your lesson for the day in
PC - 101.

Have a nice day!

Namecalling is never acceptable.

The only thing it does is reduce your credibility and hurt others.

You should write 10 pages about it.
