Do you have to pay for each month or is it just pay for the game and then play??? What kind of characters can you be? Are there different races or is it that everyone is human??? TY for help...

No monthly fees. You just have to buy the game once from the store and that's it. There are 10 professions to choose from and all the player characters are human. (Although you can pick up some non-human heros that will tag along with you if you want)
6 core professions
Warrior - Typical sword/axe/hammer fighter
Ranger - Nature lover. Uses a bow and has pets.
Monk - Typical healer
Necromancer - Can raise undead minions, curse enemies.
Elementalist - Typical spellcaster. Heavy damage dealer, weak armor.
Mesmer - Spellcaster. Messes up the other 5 professions. Blocks spells, weakens enemies, basically can cripple an enemy and make them unable to fight or cast.
Factions has 2 additional professions.
Assassin - Uses daggers. Get in close, kill, get back out fast!
Ritualist - Communes with spirits and ghosts. Can be played as a damage dealer or healer.
Nightfall also has 2 more professions.
Dervish - Uses a scythe and enchantments. Can tank like a warrior and also deal heavy AoE damage with the scythe.
Paragon - Command figure. Uses shouts and chants to buff up the team. Throws spears.

You just buy the game, there's no monthly fee. I haven't played it in so long, but I believe it has the usual classes, warrior, healer, magic guy, necro guy, etc. and I don't remember seeing any other race except humans, but I'm not for sure.
