First, you must establish yourself as a resident of Nevada, this generally entails getting a Nevada driver's license, vehicle registration, etc. Second, you must contact the administrator of you retirment and notify them of the state you are a resident and tell them to deduct state taxes from that state. Then when you have established this, file end of year state taxes in California to recover any taxes withheld, the state does not withhold taxes, the employer does, with government payroll this requires you to inform them of your state of residence. If you resided in California for any of the tax year but less than 6 months you should be able to recover most if not all taxes deducted.

Have you properly and fully established Nevada legal residency?

State source taxes on retirement was outlawed several years ago. What agency is the retirement from? Revise your withholding with that agency to clearly show Nevada residency.

Send in a W-4 from Nevada with correct residence identifying the account.

Depends on the source of your 'retirement'. If you were employed by the State of California, as an example, I believe they consider your retirement checks as 'earned' in California, and will tax it.

Check with a qualified tax professional to see if that is the situation.

surround yourself in a compound. take all your money out of your IRA with no withholdings. stash it all in your compound. buy ak 47s. let them come and get it.
