Music of today just isnt the same as it used to be?

There is a lot of junk floating across the airwaves today. But, who do you consider to be some truly talented artists of today?

I should make myself clear. I personally don't think of any musician or group as junk. I meant that phrase as more of the idea of what a lot of people think about todays music. Personally, I don't consider anyone to be junk. If it isn't my taste, it isn't my taste. I don't let others choose my music and I am glad people like different things.

And the purpose of this question is just to possibly discover some bands that I haven't heard of.

Arcade Fire, Beirut, My Morning Jacket, Pedro the Lion, Bright Eyes, Tv on the Radio, Isis, Queens of the Stone Age, Adem, I could go on forever, it would depend what genre or what sound you're looking for. Lately with the snow being around i've been listening to a lot of The Walkmen who are perfect music for the winter time!

To me, as long as an artist can sing well, and perform live without needing any lipsync or background tracks, that's good enough

If everyone needs to be a super vocalist or instrumentalist then music will be boring simply because there won't be much artist, and people will get bored of the same old artist over and over again, eventually even the great will be like a junk that nobody wants to listen to anymore

music is all about creativity, it's an art.

As much as I don't like modern music such a rap, hip op, techno, and god knows what else new term they have now, it doesn't make them NOT music.

I would be self centered to think that only what we like is music and what we hate isn't. Of course we can come up with a thousand reason why artist that we hate aren't real music, but as long as they have fans, people love listening to their music, then it is music.

Even boyband are musician, just because they kind of music doesn't fit the taste of adults, doesn't meant they are not music.

Music is an art, so it has to evolve. I just stick to the ones I love, and let the younger generation enjoy theirs.

Let's not call them junk =)

I think bands like Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and The Offspring are truly talented. They've been around for a while now (Offspring the longest) and they're all still going strong. Also, artistes like Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey are good.

Try music.yahoo.com ...Set up a station, tell it what you like and it will feed you new stuff that sounds similar. You can rate stuff as it comes up and shape the sound you get pretty precisely.
