x^2 + 7x -- 12 = 0
=> x = -- 7/2 ± 1/2sqrt(7^2 + 48) = -- 7/2 ± 1/2sqrt(97)

This is an MTS method. That is - mid term splitting method.
multiply the 1st and last term
x^2 multiplied by -12 = -12x^2

now, u have to find numbers whose product is -12 and their addition/subtraction is 7.
but, you cant do this sum by this method.
so we will use teh quadratic formula..

Discriminant= b^2+ 4ac

whr b=+7 a= 1 c=-12

d= (7)^2 + 4 (1) (-12)
d= 49 - 48
d= 1
under-root d = under-root 1

i am srry i cannot insert the symbols so i suggest u go on wikipedia.com

it has the formula there!!!

what should we do??????????????
if we have too find the roots then you can do in this way
x² + 7x - 12 = 0
(-b+ or-(b^2-4ac)^1/2)/2a
there fore the roots are (-7+or-(97)^1/2)/2

Use the quadratic formula

-7 +/- sqrt(49-4(-12)) all over 2

-7/2 +/- sqrt(97) / 2

Soi the two roots are

-7/2 + sqrt(92) / 2

And

-7/2 - sqrt(92)/2

Please let ^ symbolize squared

x^ + 7x -12 = 0
x^ + 7x = 12
x + 7x = 12^
8x = 12^
8x = 144
x = 144/8
x = 18

Am i right?
i am sorry i made a mistake
when the square is brought over to the other side the square should be converted to the square root of 12
i am sorry!

By using Quadratic Formula
x1,2=[2b(+or-)(b^2-4ac)^1/2] / 2a
where
a= 1
b= 7
c= -12
or
Using calculator
x1= 1.4244
x2= -8.4244

If you can't factor the expression then use the quadratic formula.
