Vaginal thrush is a common infection caused by a yeast called candida albicans, which lives - in small numbers – in areas of the body like the bowel, mouth and in the vagina. Thrush develops when candida numbers grow excessively. Thrush is also known as candidiasis.

Vaginal itching or burning are common symptoms
Symptoms which you may experience if you develop thrush include:

Vaginal discomfort - itching or burning
A thick white discharge with a 'cottage cheese' appearance
Redness or swelling of the vagina or vulva
Stinging or burning while urinating.
Diagnosis of thrush
For a diagnosis of thrush to be made, your doctor will need to examine your genitals and take swab specimens from the affected area.

Thrush is not a sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by an overgrowth of candida, which normally lives in the vagina.

Treatment is not always necessary
Sometimes symptoms only last for a short time (for example, the week before your period) and treatment is not necessary.

To help prevent thrush:
Wipe from front to back after using the toilet. This will prevent the spread of candida from the anus to the vagina.
Use mild soap or sorbolene-glycerine cream to wash the genital area daily.
Avoid using antiseptics, irritating douches or perfumed sprays in the genital area.
Avoid tight fitting pants and synthetic underwear.

It sounds like you have thrush and the fact that your period is due this week could show that it has been brought about by hormonal changes.

A few tips to prevent thrush in the future. Only wear 100% cotton underwear, this helps your skin to breathe. Don't wear jeans/trousers that are too tight!! Don't use products when cleaning your vagina, these strip away the natural friendly bacteria that keep you fresh! Water is enough to keep you clean.

Now for treatment you can get Canestan from a pharmacy, this comes in the form of cream and possibly even a tablet. Get your mum in on this one, still will know which creams etc work best!!

Good luck :)

Sounds like you have a yeast infection.
Don't worry yeast infections are very common among women and majority of women will or have had a yeast infection at least 1 time in their lives. Tell your mom about it so she can help you buy some cream or medication for it. She can also take you to the doctor and the doctor can explain it to you and your mom so in the future, you will know what to do if it happens again.

Wear 100% cotton panties (no thongs).
Wash with a gentle soap. Pat dry and try not to scratch!!!

Like I said, Don't worry, this is very common and there are lots of over-the-counter medication your mom can help you buy.

Sounds like a type of fungal infection, possibly thrush. Don't panic!!! It's fairly common. See a pharmacist and they can give you something like canesten cream to stop the itch. There's also a tablet that clears the infection after taking just one. They can be quite expensive though so it may be better to get a prescription for the stuff from your doctor so you can get it for free. Don't be embarrassed, lots of women get it at some time in their life. :-)

EDIT - Sawatee - reported
