I switch between tampons and pads during my period and I noticed that occasionally when using pads overnight or sometimes long amounts of time (maybe 4 hours), I start to develop small itchy bumps which sometimes are on the lips of the vagina or on the sides towards the butt. The bumps are always located on an area where the pad touches against the skin. I use vagisil itch cream to relieve the itch and they go away usually by the time my period of over. Is there such a thing as allergic reactions to pads? Or is it just the moistness against my skin for long amounts of time? Anyone else that have something like this?
I am using Always brand pads.
I don't have STDs (and yes, I've been checked so I am sure).

Make sure you are using unscented pads and change it just before you go to bed and first thing when you wake up. It could simply be that while wearing a pad you have a warm damp enviroment that's creating some irritation of your skin or hair follicles. If you get an area that doesn't go away go to your physician so they can evaluate further, nothing is worse than a small abscess "down below."

Yes, one can be allergic to the ingredients in pads. I've met some women who have a problem with wearing Always pads because the layer of material on top irritates their skin.

This situation could also be getting aggrivated by not changing pads every couple of hours depending on how heavy your flow is.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

I use Always pads too and I also get those bumps you talk about. I think they are essentially diaper rash. Pads like diapers have a plastic sheet inside which traps heat and dampness and causes this rash.

You are probably allergic to the pads. If you are using a scented pad try using unscented.
