I'm a 55 year old female. In August 2006, I had some minor abdominal surgery. Since then, for some reason, I have developed a bifurcated sleep pattern. I can't stay awake past 8 PM. Sometimes I'm even in bed and asleep by 6:30 PM. I then wake up anywhere between 11 PM and 2 AM. I don't fall asleep again right away, but just as I feel I want to go to sleep again, I have to get up and go to work. I work a 6 AM to 2 PM shift, and I have a 30 mile (50 km) drive, so I have to get up about 4 AM. This makes me feel tired and cranky the rest of the day. I thought this was unusual, but apparently many people experience this as evidenced lately by all the ads for sleep regulating drugs such as Lunesta, Ambien and Sonata. I'd prefer to have a non-drug solution. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I mentioned this to my doctor. She said try staying up later like 9 or 10 PM. I just can't stay awake that late.

No-one teaches us to sleep properly when we are young and thats the problem.

Sleeping is all to do with the brain, and sometimes people brains need retraining to go into "deep sleep" so you feel like you haven't been awake all night.

There is a free seven part guide to sleep and sleep help without drugs on the website below and they also sell a guide on it. No hypnosis, no drugs or herbs, it really quite amazing and it works.
