Is 24 too old to be able to go back to college to study civil engineering and expect to have a decent chance to get hired when I graduated at approx 28 years.

I have a degree in History already.

I'm talking about getting hired. Anyone can study at any age, what concerns me is getting a job. I can learn about engineering in my spare time (which I do) without getting a degree. I need the degree to get the job. Thats my concern.

Thanks.

No, it's not too old to get hired. You do realize that most people change their careers multiple times over a life time? Those 17 year olds who are going into civil engineering or those 21 year old fresh graduates, probably won't stay engineers for the rest of their working lives. It's nothing new.

A lot of jobs may like a person ("older") person who is going to college or has recently gone to college. Not only is all the knowledge fresh in your head, but you are mature too, and have other experience that younger grads may not have. And it shows initiative. 24 isn't too old at all, a lot of people start at that age. Go for it, good luck.

It wouldn't be too old anyway, but is especially not a problem because you already have a degree. I have a student who did this after graduating, and four years later was happily working as an engineer.

It is never too old to go back to college. At 28 you will still have a great chance of getting a job in your field. Good Luck!!
