I wouldn't say it is a horrible thing but one should avoid hurting another persons feelings because you have no clue as to how it may impact their life. The knack is to learn how to say the truth with the least impact. Not saying anything at all can actually be worse than saying what you need to say. Just learn how to do it the right way.

It can actually be a good thing if it is a harsh truth you're telling, them because even though they might resent you for hurting their feelings, they'll still think about your words whether they admit it or not, and might eventually be able to do something practical with the criticism. It's taking advantage of someone who's insecure and will be effected by cruel comments whether they're true or not that's not really a good thing. Although you can always argue that, if you don't do it someone else will, that if they can't deal such things as verbal bullies or rejection that they're going to get "eaten a live" in the "real world" so they should learn to thicken their skin.

Because it conflicts with the requirement to treat others as you want to be treated. There's nothing wrong with being truthful, it's all in how you do it. It's alway better to be tactful and kind rather than blunt when you are conveying a painful truth.

Truth is impartial. If the truth hurts, then you need to stop wearing your heart on your sleeve and thicken that skin a little bit. Being overly sensitive is harmful to ones well being.

When you hurt someone it's like throwing a bad rock in a lake you get bad ripples back, so it's always best to throw a good rock in.

Because our "essence", our "nature" is against "hurt and pain"! We know we hurt intentionally as adults and therefore, know quite too well that our actions always have a consequence.
