Because it is easy to single one person out and attack that person. It's the classic mob mentality. Some people figure that if they go along with the group...perhaps they won't be targeted themselves. Some people can't think for themselves.

Mob madness...some just like to pick on those who don't go along with the crowd--are shy--or the new guy in town. It's really a bad thing.

Often its "follow the leader" when picking upon others. Its a way of making those who are actually inadiquate feel more important.
