A good natural cures link at New Free Books in the Leap Over Web Clutter section.
But the most powerful thing you can do is learn mediation.... and if you feel up to it add some Yoga. Personal instruction is best (Use Yoga Finder) and there are excellent Yoga links on this website as well.
In the long term, meditation (non religious) will work best. Get a sense of the kind of spiritual practice to look for in the First Book on this same website.

yes drugs will be making you more ill than you are. drugs mask the symptoms of disease not cure it.
Depression is a result of the body's inability to repair and rebuild itself, usually due to a traumatic experience or ongoing stress levels.
A healthy diet in foods rich in vital energy will give the body what it needs to repair what is lacking that prevents you from having the energy to get up in the mornings and function.
70% of you daily calorie intake should be from fresh fruit and vegetables, not canned or processed, frozen is fine. you need to look for food rich in antioxidants; blueberries are best.
Caffeine is the worst thing for depression as it adds to the stress on your body by attacking the adrenal glands and depleting your body of vital minerals and vitamins. stay away from junk food and fast food, sugars and fats... you will start noticing a difference with about a week.
Go see a natropath or read some books on nutrition, and get on a healthy diet that will build your body's immune system. a great book is 'The Metabolic Plan' by Stephen Cherniske.
He always says "When was the last time you saw and energetic depressed person?"
All you need is energy to get better, and energy comes from good food.
If you reside in the US. e-mail me and I can direct you to some wonderful research on vital energy and nutritional suppliments to help you.

Some drugs seem to work for some people and not for others so asking them to change the drugs you're taking might be the solution (herbal remedies aren't something you want to be playing around with, dosage tends to be very badly controlled and whilst there is one (or more) active ingredient(s) in whatever does work there is also a lot of other stuff in the herbs some of which is very bad for you (others merely have no effect)).
