My new notebook should be here any day and my current modem has no wireless capability and only one Ethernet jack which my PC is plugged into. Could I just pick up a new one from the store, or should I call the phone company? I tried a different one time when a friend of mine got rid of their DSL (I have DSL too...) and it wouldn't work...

Any suggestions..?

Just plug a wireless router into your modem and you will be set. The router has a WAN port on the back and usually 4 ethernet ports. Run the connection from the WAN (Wide Area Connection) to the single port on your modem. Hook your computer up to one of the ethernet ports.

you still need the modem -

you could add a wireless router - about $80 at WalMart

for average service (Linksys G)

I just upgraded to N class - $200 for the router and the PC
attachment - and it runs 3x faster than the G

you may not need the other half as your notebook may already be 'wired' with an antennae

so you can get out for $100 + tax

maybe first you should call your isp first because most isps are giving you a new modem and some will give you modem/router in one.with wireless.and i believe you can also choose...i just dont know if it will cause you some bucks...but it is worth a try so that you will not buy a new one.if it didnt work buy a wireless router
