i have to go against the answers above, and say no, of course i dont usually want many things, but the things i select to want, when i get them, i am only happy,
i suppose alot of it is realizing before hand the consequences of what you want, such as if i want more time off work, i know i will then have less money, if i want more money, then i realize i will have to work more, etc etc
also, for some the let down is like the "waiting for Saturday night" ,,, if you put your happiness in a future thing, getting something, then when you get it you have built up so much what it means, that you cant enjoy it, you have focused to much on it , like saying Saturday night i will go out and have a blast! it will be awesome, anything short of a major event will then leave you feeling let down, you invested too much thought in it, placed too much meaning on it, it got much more complicated then just saying "i want this "

Yeah, like once I was so hungry I thought I could eat 2 dinners at Olive garden and once it all came, I didn't want the 2nd dinner anymore. They were not sympathetic.

I sound like such a dork...
But read the Great Gatsby...
It's called the American Dream, no one will ever get it because we always want something more and begin to chase empty or impossible dreams.

Not exactly. I got what I thought I wanted, then when I had it I realized it wasn't what I wanted.
