Accountability (includes: Fiscal responsibility, transparency, openness, truth, responsibility for one's own actions, etc...)

Universal Healthcare (frightening concept for them)

Domestic priorities (education, children's healthcare, jobs (and I'm talking about REAL jobs here people; not the ones that are bare minimum-wage and can't keep up with the high cost of living), sound energy policies, our environment, global warming, and natural disaster preparedness. Providing for the elderly, the disabled, the poor. (Yeah, I know: The last one's gotta be a real b*tch to deal with, huh?)

Dealing with reality ("Iraq's a threat to our national security!" and... : "If you're interested in preventing World War 3...?")

Being a friend and ally to the world community instead of being a real asshat for years.

Compromising on many issues for the common good of the country--instead of just digging in and being obstructionists.

The Republicans as a political party have always been opposed to social programs; they have been the party of the rich and only tolerate those who are not because they might vote Republican! The current Administration is based upon corruption and lies since the Right-leaning Supreme Court decided the 2000 election. The Bush Administration then invaded Iraq under false pretenses and for reasons which remain a mystery to me. Therefore, they must operate upon the principles of revisionist history in order to prop up their failed policies. They do not seem to care whether they alienate our former allies, pretending that "coalition forces" are engaged in fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They must ignore the Constitution in order to instigate the policies which they wish to pursue.
Apparently, they believe that the majority of Americans will accept whatever nonsense they tell us or whatever they do. Hopefully, at least some of us are not that gullible!

An answer from a Constitutionalist

Accountability: Fiscally Republicans are better than Democrats usually. Then again the government should have a smaller hand in the private sector. Only by Bush has this trend reversed on Republicans. Transparency, Openness (being an synonym for transparency) , personal responsibility. Face it both Democrats and Republicans (who are in office) are crooks. They only run because they have something to gain by being president/senator/representative. Where as there should be no gain for wanting to be one of the above, you should do it because you wish to serve your country. If you ask me besides the president there should be no paychecks for senators and representatives it would get the crooks out real fast.

Universal Health Care: While health care is a big issue for a lot of Americans. Making it Universal (I.E. - Taxpayer paid health care) would cause lower paychecks for hospitals and doctors in this country and the quality of our current health care system would drop like a man having a seizure.

Domestic Issues: Again as above neither really give a damn. They may all say they care. They don't because not one of those issues actually effects them or their families.

Providing for the elderly: (See Domestic Issues)
Providing for the disabled: (See Domestic Issues) [Note: I've known personally hundreds of so called "disabled" people collecting when they could work. While I've also known hundreds of actually disabled people who could not collect and the government was fighting them all the way. It needs overhauled if not done away with ]
Providing for the poor: (See Domestic Issues) [Note: Get a job]
Dealing with reality: Christian Conservatives have always had a problem with that one. Fiscal (Reagan) Republicans are usually smart, well grounded individuals.

Following the Constitution: Neither dems or pubs want this in reality. Dems want to take away guns. You have to go against the constitution (Right to bear arms). Pubs want laws against gay marriage. You have to go against the constitution (Freedom of Religion). I could go on and on . Blunt fact both have their party agendas and do not regard the WHOLE constitution as it should be in my opinion. But take, pick, and modify which ones support their agenda.

Smaller Gov: Democrats have never wanted smaller government. Always large and in control of everyones lives. Hence the smoking ban, gun registration, welfare, ect, ect are Democratic thoughts. I'm not saying some of these are good or bad. But it does show Democrats love to put their noses where it doesn't belong.

Balanced Budgets: (See Domestic Issues)

First, if you put a tad few issues in your question it would be easier to answer them in this venue. So I'll just cherrypick and answer a few of them. And a warning that these answers apply mostly to this administration, not to all Republicans.

Accountability to Reps means being accountable for yourself, not a government being accountable to the governed. This administration feels that they do not have to justify doing what they want to anyone.

Universal healthcare would stabilize medical costs and cut back on the profit the drug companies and insurance companies make. Notice I do not mention hospitals, since the system as it is currently set up is not geared for them to be profitable. Most of them barely break even, because the other two are taking most of the profit from the system.

As far as balanced budgets go, this administration has claimed all along to be the tax cut administration, while what they have really done is simply do what they want with money we don't have by making loans with governments like China. They know this will eventually have to be repaid and taxes will have to be raised, but they don't care as long as they don't do it.

Sky,

As a true independent, going on my 11th year as such, I think that your question is void of facts.

1) Both parties lack accountability. Though it has become fashionable to attack the republicans on this issue, I suggest that you also look at the first session of the new democratic congress.

2) Universal health care is not opposed by ALL republicans, just as it is not supported by ALL democrats.

3) In case you forgot, or are just to naive to see the facts, it was a democrat governer, democrat and republican senator, and a democrat mayor who failed during and after Katrina just as much as the Bush administration.

4) What have the democrats done to provide for anyone? After there first full session, nothing has been done by the democratic house or senate on this issue.

5) Iraq???? Please share your vast knowlege of the war in Iraq with us.

6) Also, please site violations of federal and international law, and explain why they have not been tried by any of the millions of anti-republican authorities in the world.

7) Same for the constitution.

8) Smaller government? Apparently you have no clue as to where each party falls on this issue.

9) Balanced budget? I would be interested in seeing your schematics on this one.

Let me try respectfully to give you my opinion. I cannot speak for all republicans just myself. I think that extended families need to take care of each other. For financial needs and for safety. In my very small home town we had a few families that could not fund themselves every christmas the community gave the children gifts and helped them out financially this is what we call " good neighbors". When someones house burnt down guess who saved the day "good neigbors". When old man wilson had destructive tresspassers on his familys land we did call the sheriff but the men of the neighborhood eventually ironed this out. It is not the goverments need to meet everyones basic human needs that is the individual and the communitys job not the federal government. They should definately give you an opportunity to work and you should be compensated for your time. But Guns mixed with a community of people that care more about there community then they do themselves is what has made AMERICANS so loved around the world. We are trying now to regulate all manner of social programs and supplimental that it is putting humongous strain on our country financially as well as developing a country that expects the government to pick up the slack and promoting lifestyles of being sorry. Every social program is started with the greatest of intentions but because of the National scope can not be administered in an effective copacity this should be regional at worst and community based at best.

In my most genuine cynical but also truest response.
WE NEED BIBLE LIVING, GUN TOTING, PEOPLE THAT LIVE BY THE GOLDEN RULE DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU. If we all as Americans adopt this mindset and let our social programs take a back seat. Financial deficit will shrink, streets will be safer, we will know and respect our neigbors. I would love to talk to anyone further as long as you are not prone to temper tantrums look up my email and drop me a line.

Wow.

This question has a hypocritical stench that is stronger than a hyena that has been dead for weeks.

LIberals like you must be geniuses. After all, you've invented:

- The spending program that costs nothing,

- The tax increase that never needs to happen,

- The business expense that never gets passed onto the customer,

- The universal health care program that would help balance the budget, make our government smaller, and lead us to fiscal restraint,

- The ultimate business and investment environment by taxing businesses, investment, and corporations more,

- The no strings attached government welfare handout programs that will encourage people to work instead of staying on welfare,

- The ultimate military by reducing funding and recruitment access,

- The "living document" constitution that isn't supposed to be taken literally, but can majestically be taken literally at the same time at will,

- The energy policy that will make energy cheaper and more plentiful by taxing it more and banning energy exploration and production,

- The 100 hypocrisy-free filibuster procedure that can be used by them but nobody else,

- The marijuana joint you can try without inhaling it,

- The internet.

So when we see all of that rhetorical smoke billowing out from the Democrats, well ladies and gentlemen, I'd follow the example of their most recent president: Don't inhale!

It is because Republicans will vote to spend trillions of dollars on wars meant to flex their muscles, to prove to the world why the US is so great, instead of using the money to build up the US domestically; thus, making it a greater nation.

Nothing can prevent World War Three. I am not a Republican, but you are very one sided. I don't think you know enough about both sides to be this judgmental. You don't know every republican, don't categorize people.

Not to be rude, just telling the truth.

Have a good night.

your question has no answer as the logic and reasoning are totally skewed. explaining the detriments of contrived socialism to a skewed thinking liberal democrat extremist is beyond the capabliities of most people as no democrat known understands the pure fantasy of what they think. the best i can tell you is ifyou ever want to know what conservatives or republicans stand for look at the clinton presidency and consider the opposite of the following.

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
