Bethany, I apologize. I should have simplified my question. You are right. Preference/ prefer. Choice/choose. Druthers/rather/preference.

Would you prefer to have knowledge or would you choose to have wisdom rather than have common sense?
OR
Would your preference be to have knowledge, or would your choice be to have wisdom or would you rather choose common sense, that is, if you had your druthers/preference?

Bethany, I was too hard on you. I didn't know a thumbs down would send you into hiding and to the bottom of this page.

I am now in the difficult process of choosing a best answer.

Seniors, we are a powerful group that has a great deal of knowledge and the wisdom and common sense to realize the value of the knowledge we have.
Thanks much, all were good answers.

Great Question DeeJay!!! Good for you... and, I love the word Druthers!

My answer would be common sense! I know some very intelligent people... off the scale. Sadly, a lot of them have no common sense. It puzzles me how such brilliance doesn't give one enough common sense to close the barn door!

I believe that if you practice common sense it will lead to wisdom if one pays attention!

I would have to choose wisdom because I think wisdom and common sense often go hand and hand. These days there seems to be an abundance of knowledge floating around, but often it is terribly lacking in good old common sense!. True knowledge is good, but having real wisdom and common sense is very important. I don't think you can go too wrong with having wisdom or common sense along as companions in life.

Common sense. If one has that trait, wisdome and knowledge would certainly follow. Common sense dictates that the reasonable thing to do is enhance your knowledge, think, learn, participate - all of which will lead to wisdom, sooner or later.

Without common sense, the other 2 certainly won't come around....

I would definitely have to say common sense, and I don't think you can obtain that by having wisdom and knowledge.I only say that because I work with an electrical/mechanical engineer...college educated...who has alot of book knowledge and wisdom, but no common sense what so ever. I have never seen anything like it. In fact, when he came to work for my employer, he told us his Father worked for Eli Lily, an he was hoping his Father would get him a job there, but his Father refused. I thought to my self, I know why....you have no common sense. It is almost annoying at times!

Knowledge is of no value if you do not have the wisdom to use it.
But common sense will get you through life with out a lot of stupid mistakes.

I'd prefer to have it all! Does that make me greedy? >grin<

While I agree with everyone who says that knowledge without common sense and wisdom isn't very useful; I think the lifelong quest for knowledge keeps life interesting. I really think having a share of all three is important. They are all related but probably use different parts of our brains. I would like to train the different parts of my brain to play well together...:)

common sense will allow you to make better choices at first.Knowledge can be obtained by reading.Wisdom comes with experience. I have a friend who has a Phd. in the nuclear field.Has a good job with the NRC. I had some water boiling in a pot for hard boiled eggs. You guessed it ,he stuck his hand in there to retrive an egg. Had this look of shock and surprise on his face. All I could say was " well , what did you expect ?". Even my dog has more sense than him.

Without common sense, all the knowledge in the world won't help you avoid trouble. And wisdom? If you don't have common sense, it follows that you don't have wisdom either.
